Apply for Yellow Ribbon Program

Yellow Ribbon is all about forgiveness, love and acceptance and giving former offenders a second chance, Tumunigela community members at Koli point of North Guadalcanal were told recently.

This followed a Yellow Ribbon awareness campaign conducted by Correctional Service officers from the Tetere Correctional Services centre Saturday last week.

SIBC’s North Guadalcanal stringer Dudley Gani reported the officers’ team leader, Superintendent Michael Nangu as saying community members should not view former inmates negatively.

“Mr Nangu said the vision of the Yellow Ribbon programme is changing minds and wining hearts, adding that often people are pessimistic about former prisoners to an extent of tarnishing the hard work done by Correctional Services in preparing offenders to re-enter their communities, rendering their work useless. The Superintendent called on communities to welcome, accept, forgive and love those who have experienced prison life and reintegrate with them as the best way to ensure communities are safe in the future.”
