MILITARY AND VETERANS

There is a special bond between the George Washington School of Business and active duty service members and military veterans. You bring leadership and experience that adds value to programs and fellow students. As a leader in business education, we provide new tools and knowledge to help you excel at what’s next.

The George Washington University launched “Operation GW VALOR” on 18 May 2013 (Armed Forces Day). Operation GW VALOR is a comprehensive, collaborative, and unified effort amongst key stakeholders whereby GW student US Military members, their Families, and Veterans Accelerate Learning Opportunities & Rewards (VALOR).

Operation GW VALOR is spearheaded by Vice Admiral (ret) Melvin Williams, Jr., GW’s Associate Provost for Military and Veterans Affairs. In addition, Dr. Alfred Hamilton, a Lieutenant Colonel (ret) and an Assistant Professor, serves as a senior advisor and helps us develop our academic strategy.

The mission of GW VALOR (Veterans Accelerate Learning Opportunities and Rewards program) is to position the George Washington University to be known as the “University of Choice” for veterans, military service members, dependents, and survivors by being nationally recognized as a “Military and Veteran Friendly University”.

Our dedicated GW Office of Veteran Services provides support for benefit processing and specialized career support. Our online programs were designed with the flexibility of online and hybrid degree programs to accommodate the lives of military families and we guarantee deferrals for military deployments and obligations.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has placed one full-time, experienced Vocational Counselor on the GW campus. This counselor will serve as a “one-stop liaison” for veterans, active duty military and their eligible family members who attend or plan to attend GW. Examples of their assistance include:

  • Information on VA educational benefits to include: Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30), Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33), and other VA and non-VA educational benefits
  • Job placement assistance and referrals to state employment agencies and services
  • Referrals to on-campus, community and VA resources to ensure academic success
